Yes...I've been silent, and I've been busy. Mushroom hunting, turkey hunting...but mainly planning a build for our house. The painting of miniatures is truly a winter activity!
I don't know if the build of the house will come to fruition...this is all in God's hands...if it does however, it will probably mean the end of this blog..in a good way. Painting miniatures is an enjoyable activity...but I am an outdoor person. I can't find myself stuck in a room painting though when there are woods to explore, "Gators" to be ridden, and Yellow Root to be dug (among many, many other activities). I suppose if the snow was deep enough one day I couldn't get the door open...I might set down to paint; but even then, I'd probably watch the deer in the back yard...or the front yard for that.
I'd like to finish a few projects before October rolls around though (the current completion date for the house). I want to finish Jesus Walking on the Water, David Defending his Sheep, and my own personal David and Goliath. I'd like to finish Jesus' Tomb...but I just don't think time will be there. Others in the works that may or may not see a finish...mostly individual pieces...Abraham, Moses, The Abominable Snowman (he would have been cool), the "Dry Gulch Gang" and so many others. (Sorry Kevin, your parting gift upon leaving the company may not happen now!)
I will have to wait and see how it all pans out. If the house isn't built for whatever reason, then you may see this blog continue. You may see it continue even if the house is built...not mine to say. So don't remove me from your blog subscriptions yet...I still have a few good blogs left in me.

A Day at the Hospital...
OK, it really wasn't a day, but let's say morning...
My sister had to go to the emergency room this morning (all is fine now), but this is about my waiting room experience anyway.
I had a choice between watching the TV or watching the fish tank, and I found the fish tank much more interesting. It was a large one with about a dozen fish in it...even a star fish.
There was one big fish, and several smaller fish. After watching the big fish for a while, I nicknamed him "satan". He would chase the little fish around, trying to eat them...the thing was, he wasn't big enough, and the "little" fish were actually too big for him to eat. They apparently didn't know that though, and would flee as he chased each one around the tank trying to "eat" them.
Then I noticed one fish all by himself, hiding next to the rock. Ol' "satan" never bothered him...his closeness to the rock prevented "satan" from getting close to him. So while all the other fish spent their time swimming around in a panic trying to escape ol' "satan", here was this one fish, quite peaceful and content, next to the rock.
And then he did something that greatly disappointed me...when other fish sought the shelter of the rock, he would chase them away. He didn't want other fish to enjoy what he had found. I was greatly saddened by this.
So I started watching the TV...
It was a news round table talking about religion on politics. There were several "religious" representatives, and Anne Ghrame-Lotz (Billy Graham's daughter). I forget the actual question, but they asked her something about politics and religion, and while all the other "religious" leaders were giving politically correct answers, she stated, "...I don't know enough to speak on political matters, but I want a President that fears God."
They avoided her for a while, then she interrupted them and said..."...when do we get to talk about Easter, that's what this day is about...". There of course, was no response.
At the close of the show, they played an old black and white clip of her father, Billy Graham...you could see a gleam in her eye and a fire light within her, as (much to the chagrin of the host), she shared the salvation story of Jesus Christ...which all the other "religious leaders" had failed to do.
Although she will never see or hear about this blog...I commend you, Anne Graham-Lotz...well spoken in the footsteps of your father, and of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Jewish Slingers
Yes, I know for some reason I am not posting as much as I used to...must be the weather : )
Once the hot days of summer hit, you'll probably see more posts...until fall arrives : ) Most of my painting is done over the winter months...November - February.
I still have more to post, but haven't taken the time to take photos. Here is a set of Jewish Slingers - usually I get one or two "Davids" out of a set of slingers, but I have to do something with the rest.
Now one can dismay at slingers, stating they were not very effective in battle...that David slew Goliath by the Hand of God (and he did). However, slingers were quite effective in battle.
At the Battle of Gaugamela, Alexander the Great used his slingers to defeat King Darius, and would have conquered the Persian Empire then, been a far greater role in history than ever imagined, except that he left pursuing Darius to assist his favorite general, Parmenion, who was being overrun at the time by the Persians.
Back to the slingers though. Because they were foot soldiers, Alexander and his bodyguard (cavalry) hid the slingers behind the horses while they flanked the Persians - so when the battle started, the Persians were now facing twice as many men as they originally saw approaching. The slingers caused enough damage and surprise to break the right flank, and collapsed the Persian army upon itself, causing King Darius to retreat. Historians will argue the size of the Persian army compared to Alexander's forces, but all estimates will conclude that Alexander was at least outnumber 3 to 1...and some will place it as high as 6 to 1. The number of slingers in battle is unknown, but estimated to be between 500 - 2000.
So here are my Jewish Slingers - these are the first I dipped, and they were dipped in wood stain, which may work, but I don't think I had the right kind. Although Quick Shade is more expensive, it does seem to work better and goes a long way for the price...I've dipped some 30 maybe, and still have over half a can to go...except I just bent it hammering the lid back on, so don't know how long the rest will last because the seal is gone.. These do have a more "dirtier" look to them because of the stain used, but seems fitting for this type of miniature...
