Sunday Drive...

Nice day for a Sunday Drive...and a very unusual one at that...

Not quite sure where to start on this, more sure of where I will end up.  Most Sunday drives start out somewhere, and end up where you did not know, as with this one.  Along the way you hope for a pleasant drive and nice scenery, hope the weather is well and nice too.  All of this fell into place today, with four unique points of interest I wish to point out about our "Sunday Drive" 1) Gingerbread House, 2) House of Skulls, 3) Circle of Chairs, and 4) Covered Bridge to Nowhere.

1) Gingerbread House - We were out in the country, way out in the country, and in the middle of a large field was a "house".  As my wife called it, a house like would be in a kid's dream, or as I called it, the "Gingerbread" house...like it was there to entice visitors, yet didn't belong.

It was a house, as stated before, in the middle of a large field.  It was three stories high, and each story had two windows on each side.  It was not wide and perfectly square.  Each level was offset on the other, till it almost looked liked it was leaning but it wasn't.  Each side of the house was painted a different color, and each level had a different color for each side...all bright pastel colors.

The catch, the house was not that old...maybe one to two years...but there was no driveway to the house in the middle of the field...

2)  House of Skulls - not far past the "Gingerbread House"...was another house, much closer to the road, really a "shack".  On the left side of this house, top to bottom, left to right, were skulls.  Mostly cow skulls, but there were others, some of animals(?) I didn't recognize.  All different ages of animals.

3)  Circle of Chairs - I guess you could call this the equivalent of Stonehenge in Lawrence County.  Again, in the middle of a field, but also close to the road, was a circle of 13 metal chairs.   Maybe not a big deal, but they circled nothing.  No fire pit, no woodpile, nothing, no reason for these circle of chairs.

4)  Covered Bridge to Nowhere - Right next to the highway, was a good sized covered bridge...easily above average in length for a covered bridge.  It was fairly new built.  It was off the ground.  Exception?  It wasn't over water...it was just beside the road, like whoever built it was waiting for a river to change channels so they could use it.  For now, the guy next to it appeared to be parking his lawn mowers in it.

Now we did encounter a one room church built in 1852, with an adjoining graveyard founded in 1812 (usually the church is first and the graveyard backwards, but this one did it different).  The uniqueness?  There were thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of flies covering the outside of this church...it was unreal.  If you got close to the church you had to talk loud over their buzzing...they were even covering the hand rail.up to the church.  They weren't anywhere else....just covering this church.

You could count that one as number 5 on my list.  Sunday drive anyone?

If you have seen it, or never plan to watch it..

OK...if you've made it this far, then I can say it...how can a popular television series kill off two of their main characters in the same show!!!  This is one notch above when Rose "died" in the Doctor Who season finale! (and I never thought that would be topped)...

The season finale had to be one of the most intense one hour of television I have ever seen...talk about edge of your seat, old TV serial type plots, but they (the Torchwood agents), just could not get a break in this one.

-  Captain Jack Harkness finally finds his brother that he had been looking for (literally for 51 Centuries), only to find out his brother's hatred for him is greater than any hate that can exist.
- Or, how Captain Jack permitted himself to be buried alive for what would have been 2000 years, as pentenance for leaving his brother behind (which by the way was not his fault...he was just a kid!)
- Or how Captain Jack had to put his own brother to sleep for 100 years, in hopes when he wakes up he will forgive him.

Now, that was the least of the bad situations, on to Toshiko "Tosh" and Owen...

I never really liked Tosh, I thought she was a terrible actor, until the episode where she potrayed a person with confidence, and I saw she was actually a great actor...her normal character they wanted her to portray with insecurities, and she did it so well, even I was fooled.  From that point on I was a Toshiko fan.  How could they kill her off!!

And Owen, dear Owen.  He was my favorite from the start.  The guy no body liked because he was just being himself.  He finally made amends with Toshiko before they both died.  I really liked Owen.  I still don't think they had fully resolved his story...he went too soon.

So the show lives on with Captain Jack, Gwen, and Ianto.  Gwen is "OK", Jack will always be my favorite.  Who could not like Captain Jack Harkness from his Doctor Who and Rose days.  But Ianto...he may be my new favorite after Captain Jack.  I've always liked Ianto...he is the baddest dude of the bunch, yet very unassuming - who would think a guy in a suit who makes great coffee can fight or shoot like he does.  Ianto reminds me of the old "Dirty Harry" - he gets the job done when he has to, and he doesn't mess around.

But Owen...how could they kill off Owen...his story had yet to be told...

Answers...

A very good friend of mine at work gave me a Christian Magazine called "Answers".  At first I must admit I was skeptical...God and Science...we believe God by faith right?  Well, I was pleasantly pleased with the magazine...in fact I really like it.  I have to say it is not at all what I thought it would be, and it was really their firm uncompromising stance against abortion and Margaret Sanger that sold me.

I liked it so much I am going to get a subscription for myself, and am recommending it here.  I would also suggest buying a gift subscription for your local library...it will fit in very well next to Darwin's Theory of Evolution...

David and Goliath...Round 3...

Well, to date, David has won all three rounds with Goliath; well, there actually was only one, but this being the third David and Goliath I have made, I thought it a fitting opening. 

I made this one for my Dad for his birthday, I hope he liked it.  It was the first one I had done like this (under a covering), but I do like it.  I didn't quite get the verse hanging at the right level I wanted (I wanted it higher), but my fingers were too big - I actually used tweezers to tie the knot (believe it or "knot").

So what's upcoming after this?  Well, I always have some individual pieces going on but as for dioramas, Jesus Walking on the Water isn't too far from completion, David needs to defend some of his sheep (you'll like this one), and what do you know...another David and Goliath (number 4) on the way...

Of Seas and Floods...

Yes...I know it's been a while!  It has been a busy last few weeks.  My apologies to all my blog followers.

I actually need to take some new photos, I think I am caught up on most of the photos I have to share.  It can take quite a while to take photos of these, maybe a blog I will write about one day, how to photograph.  For myself, because I have to use a macro lens and a self-timer, it can take a long time to get several pictures - any slight vibration and the photo will turn out blurry due to the close nature of the photos.

I have still been at work on the miniatures.  Just finished my latest diorama and after March 11 I will be posting those pics.  Still finishing up on "Jesus and Peter Walking on the Water".  Seems there are some holes in the "Sea of Galilee"...which while trying to fix I recreated "Noah's Flood"...in blue food coloring at that.  Need to get an eye dropper to move on.  I have another nice one in the works after that, but will save those details for now.

Once I get some more photos taken I will start posting and blogging again.  Look for one today or tomorrow though on my latest Biblical diorama and the story behind it.
